2015 Season Trekking Cinque Terre

The 2015 trekking season will start shortly and here are things you should know. The Via dell ‘Amore will not be open between Riomaggiore to Manarola and the #2 trail between Manarola to Corniglia will also be closed. Due to heavy rains that we have had, forced the closure of the #2 or “Blue Trail’ from time to time. If you are coming in the early part of the year, check with the park office to see what trails are open or on my website as well. The train tickets have also gone up in price. La Spezia to Riomaggiore or Manarola it is 2.10 euro, La Spezia to Corniglia or Vernazza it is 2.40 euro and La Spezia to Monterosso is now 2.70 euro. As always be sure to punch your tickets prior to boarding the train.

The trail that everyone is wanting to take is the lower trail which normally runs from Monterosso to Riomaggiore. The only part of this trail that you will be able to take this year will be Monterosso to Corniglia. After that you will have to take the #7 to the #6 up to Volastra and then down to Manarola. There is also a trail that goes up from Manarola to Riomaggiore #531. I would recommend that you all start in Riomaggiore if you plan on doing the full trail. The #7 to the #6 from Corniglia to Volastra is a very steep trek and you will most likely arrive there in the afternoon. You will be going up in the heat of the day and on an open trail, no shade till you get to the split in the trails.

They are currently working on some of the open trails. The people trekking with walking sticks with the sharp metal points are ruining the trails. If they would use the rubber covers, it would really help out from digging into the rocks, stone walls and the stairs. These paths or trails were not made for hundreds of people to trek on. These trails were for the people to work the land and harvest the grapes. I have heard from many a farmer that the people are ruining the stairs. These trails are not the #2 trail, but the ones that are being used because of the closed trails. They have also asked me to make signs for them, to remind the people not to pick their grapes or trespass on their land.

Lets all be conscious of keeping Cinque Terre safe and for everyone to enjoy for years to come!

  1. Hi! Going to Manarola in 2 weeks and was wondering if you have any news on trail openings/closures for 2016? Sad to hear the Manarola-Corniglia one is closed?

    • The #2 trail from Riomaggiore to Manarola then to Corniglia is still closed. You have to use the 02 & the #6 trail to get to these villages. The #2 trail is open from Corniglia to Vernazza & Monterosso with a paid park fee.
